Deploy ASP .NET on Apache with Mod Mono for free .NET hosting, using this Debian-based Live CD
TurnKey ASP .NET Live CD is an open source and free software appliance that provides users with a stable, reliable and easy-to-use solution for deploying dedicated ASP .NET servers that are based on the well known Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
Mono is an open source implementation of ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET AJAX designed to be used on Linux operating systems to host ASP .NET web apps. The appliance comes with Apache ASP .NET web server using the mod_mono module for serving ASP .NET applications.
In addition, it include mono-server2, which is pre-configured to use /var/www as the webroot, an interactive Mono C# Shell, the TurnKey Web Control panel, a MySQL .NET Connector, and out-of-the-box SSL support.
This TurnKey appliance also features a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for sending email messages to users, such as password recovery, as well as various Webmin modules for configuring MySQL, Postfix and Apache.
It is available for download as Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit), as well as virtual machine images for the OpenStack, OpenNode, OpenVZ, OVF and Xen virtualization technologies.
When using this appliance, the user should keep in mind that the default username for the Webmin, MySQL and SSH components is root. New passwords must be added right after the installation, during the first boot configuration process.
The text-mode installation is not so scary, as it only requires users to choose a disk partitioning method and where to install the boot loader. The entire installation process should only take a few minutes. At the end of the first boot configuration process, the user can view the IP addresses and ports of the active services.
Please make sure that you write down these credentials on a piece of paper or anywhere else where you can easily access them quickly for managing the appliance remotely.
