Apple released today the watchOS 5.1.1 software update for Apple Watch devices after pulling the watchOS 5.1 release last week due to an issue that bricked the Apple Watch 4 series.

Last week, Apple was quick to remove the watchOS 5.1 software update it developed during the past month because of multiple reports of bricked Apple Watch devices, including the latest Apple Watch Series 4 models. Therefore, users were left in the dark with either a bricked device or with an older software version.

It took the company one more week to fix the bricking issue and include the patch in the watchOS 5.1.1 (build number 16R600) software update released today, which is now available for all supported Apple Watch devices running watchOS 5.0.1 or watchOS 5.1 via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates.

How to update your Apple Watch to watchOS 5.1.1

If you have an Apple Watch device from Series 3 or Series 4, you can update it right now to today's watchOS 5.1.1 software update to receive all the new features Apple implemented in the watchOS 5.1 release that it pulled last week, including 70 new emoji characters and several other improvements.

To update your Apple Watch, you'll need an iPhone device running the iOS 12.1 software update, so make sure you've updated your iPhone before proceeding. Then, open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to General, then Software Updates, and download/install the watchOS 5.1.1 update after it's displayed on the updates page.

Please keep in mind that to successfully install a watchOS update, you must connect the Apple Watch device to its charger and allow it to be charged over 50 percent. Hopefully, the watchOS 5.1.1 update won't brick any more Apple Watch devices so that Apple can focus on adding new features and improvements to watchOS.
